I purchased this product to keep baby food cold while flying. Since each "ice" is smaller than 3 oz. it was no problem getting it through security. Baby had a 1 quart zip lock bag and I put her milk (for take off and landing) and these ice packs in there, and it went right through security with no questions -- and that included international flights, too!For some reason they did feel a little slimy on the outside after they defrosted, but that wiped off fine. I had 6 wrapped around a small baby bottle, and they stayed cold pretty well. (I froze the 2 oz. of milk and then wrapped the ice around them. It was still cool about 12 hours later, and it wasn't in a very good cooler.) I'm sure they'd do even better if they were in a better cooler and if I had used more of them. I also took the un-inflated sheets with me on our trip -- that was great because they don't take up any space and we had them in case we needed to activate more. I don't blame them for trying to capitalize on a patent of some sort, but the fact these have to be saturated (and enlarged) by placing in water first made it questionable. I'm prototyping their product for commercial use as I need lots of something to keep my product cold!!Problems Found: 1. Time spent soaking in water (at least 7 minutes). I found you have to re-soak after just one or two times of use as they deflate (evaporation of water from cells?) 2. No doubt, they leave a sliminess behind. Upon squishing the sheets after they enlarge with water, you can SEE THE CONTENTS OF LIQUID (and chemical?) shoot out from tiny random holes in the plastic. That means the same way the water went, it comes out - only with chemical --- hence the "sliminess." Not good in my opinion. Chemical is said to be "non toxic." Same thing can be said for many of the processed food we eat which absolutely is causing health problems (obesity, diabetes...) That's beside the... This stuff is truely amazing! Nothing stays as COLD as this stuff does no matter how hot it is outside. We use it all the time for our kid's lunch box. Sheets can be cut to size so they fit perfectly in his insulated lunch box. After a few years the packaging does wear out, but still way better than having the blue stuff leak out. This is the THIRD time I have brought this product and I will continue to buy it again and again. Again, this stuff really works. |
